Understanding the puzzle

What do we know?

Jeremiah 31:33 states that our Heavenly Father intends to put His character in our inward parts, writing it in our hearts. This is reiterated in Hebrews 8:10 and 10:16 . Ezekiel 36:26-27 speaks to the new heart and that through this He will cause us to walk in His statutes and keep His judgments (the only two divisions of the Torah).

Romans 8:29 talks about being conformed to the image of His son and 2Corinthians 3:18 says the same thing.

In C.S. Lewis famous "Rats in the Cellar" story, he relates how a man has two actions: pre-meditated (post-mental processing) and instant (pre-mental processing) and you can see how he understands this by his statement "Surely what pops out before the man has time to put on a disguise is the truth". Here we see the character of the man in contrast to the decision making process of the man. We all have a character and that is what people see when there is not time to filter a response (post-mental processing) to be fitting in society.

Our Heavenly Father wants us to have a character that does not need post-mental processing, that is, it is His character, one which always acts correctly without post-mental processing.

Perhaps an expanded reading of Proverbs 16:3 is closer than we realize...

"Roll your works upon Yahweh. Commit and trust them wholly unto Him and He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, therefore shall all your acts succeed". [Expanded Amplified Version]
Roll the works Torah requires upon Him. Commit and trust the out-working of what Torah requires solely upon Him. When you do this, He will write His character into your new heart and therefore your works of righteousness will be established, exceeding that of the scribes and Pharisees (Matthew 5:20).
